A tale of growth
and transformation
The history of Gailerhof
Gailerhof has existed for 600 years. This is a place with many stories to tell, of the people who lived here and of how their dreams came true.
How it all started
Gailerhof was built in 1411 as a home and farmstead for a farmer’s family. The Gailerhof mill, also known as the Goala mill, was built in 1863 for processing grain. The original farmstead is still standing, and is the centre of our farming activity.
From farmstead to hotel
The historical farmstead used to provide accommodation for guests up until 1981, when Peter and Gertrud Ploner – parents of the current owner – had a second building erected and opened it to guests as Hotel Gailerhof.
Gailerhof today
Kati and Georg took over the business in 2018 with a vision in mind: to blend tranquillity, enjoyment and contemporary design into one experience. Without any excess frills, but with plenty of space to socialise, relax and indulge. They had the building redesigned into a stylish B&B, which they run with heartfelt hospitality and attention to detail.
German Design Award
Our building’s unmistakable wood facade, made of larch timber from our own woods, was designed by hoi°architektur – probably the coolest architecture and interior design studio in South Tyrol. The facade is a striking feature that also blends harmoniously into the surrounding landscape, with the large balconies forming part of the façade and extending the living space to the outside. A piece of exquisite architectural work that won the German Design Award in 2020.
